Domaine Charnay
Expressive Gamay from Thibault Charnay in the Terres Dorées of southern Beaujolais.
Thibault Charnay grew up surrounded by vineyards in the Terres Dorées, the golden limestone hills of southern Beaujolais, where his family has a long history of grape growing. After nearly a decade running his own construction business, he returned to the family domaine in 2012, working the vineyards around his hometown of Anse before gradually expanding his holdings to 12 hectares of Gamay planted on the region's distinctive limestone soils.
Through his work with his wife Émilie's family, Thibault gained years of experience with organic vineyard practices, while the influence of his brother-in-law Raphaël of Domaine Saint Cyr encouraged him to convert his own estate to organic farming in 2019. He began vinifying and bottling his own wines soon after, moving away from selling his fruit to négociants. Today, Thibault works with native yeasts and a gentle approach in the cellar, producing expressive Beaujolais that reflect the purity of Gamay and the character of the Terres Dorées.
