Terroir
An alluvial valley at the foot of Pierrefeu-du-Var, where Provence's red sandy-clay soils meet limestone and stony alluvial deposits.

Domaine Kennel is a 38-hectare family estate in Pierrefeu-du-Var, in the western Côtes de Provence. The vineyards lie between the southern foothills of the Massif des Maures and the limestone plateau of the Central Var, where Mediterranean influence is moderated by cooler inland air.

The estate's history stretches back almost 1,000 years, but its modern era began in 1932 when Charles-Martin Kennel, whose family had emigrated from Switzerland, purchased the abandoned property and replanted the vineyards. The first wines under the Domaine Kennel name were released in 1954.

Fourth-generation siblings Julien and Mireille Kennel have run the estate since 2005, continuing a gradual replanting programme while preserving the domaine's historic vine genetics. The vineyards were certified organic in 2020 and biodynamic in 2023. Cover crops, compost and gentle soil cultivation support healthy soils, while surrounding fig trees, oaks and native vegetation encourage biodiversity throughout the estate.
