Terroir
Predominantly granite soils, with parcels in the En Papolet vineyard characterised by shallow sandy granite over fractured bedrock.

Obora was founded by Hugo Foizel and Angela Quiblier, who met while studying oenology in Dijon in 2017. Hugo is originally from the Aube in Champagne, while Angela grew up in the Jura. Before establishing their own domaine, they gained experience with some of France's leading producers, including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Leroy and Stéphane Tissot.

The pair moved to Beaujolais in 2019 to become the first co-managers of Domaine des Jeunes Pousses, the 5.2-hectare project established by Thibault Liger-Belair and Ivan Massonnat to provide opportunities for the next generation of winegrowers. After three vintages, they settled in Chénas and launched Obora, farming their own parcel in En Papolet along with part of a neighbouring vineyard. The name Obora combines Aube, Beaujolais and Jura, reflecting their origins and the region they now call home.
